Cow Dung

I found out the other day that the floors in the houses are made of cow dung. It acts as a very good insulator in the cold weather, and also keeps out the heat in the summer. It also keeps the bugs & insects out, and has natural anti bacterial properties.

Apparently our huts at the ashram used to have this flooring until recently. They found that it worked well except for the fungus & mildew that was starting to develop during the rainy season.

I know that cows are sacred & I am enjoying drinking their milk.......but I also certainly appreciate our updated tile flooring!
