The Festival of Lights

Celebrating Diwali with the ashram community was beautiful last week. It was a sweet tooth's dream......every day we were presented with a new milk based sweet. A nice change from our healthy (but often quite repetitive) sattvic diet :) I think some of my favourite sweets were the coconut rice, the lagoo balls....and of course last but not least: the warm milk with cardamon, pistachio, cashews, & other mystery ingredients!

Singing bahjans with the other ashramites & all of the teachers & their families has been a great experience. We do this about once a week....usually on a Saturday night. Mrs. Guruji sings with her absolutely stunning voice.....while about 2 or 3 other men play the background music. It only takes one person to start clapping or tapping their foot to the music, and before you know it: we are all up singing & dancing. Everyone together with the music....creating new routines & rhythms as we circulate around the hall. We even had a session about two weeks ago to celebrate the recent full moon. Not quite Moontribe - but just as fun & infectious!!!!
