The Lotus Flower Meditation

My primary teachers, Mr. & Mrs. Sharma, our truly a blessing. We are so lucky to have them in the therapy program.

Mrs. Sharma has a stunning voice & sings mantras throughout our entire asana practice.

Mr. Sharma is so knowledgeable on pranayam & meditation techniques......and I am learning so much already. Yesterday morning after our 5:45 am chants, he guided us through the lotus flower meditation. It is very user-friendly & a good introduction for those who are new to the practice.

It involves lying in supine pose with bent knees (to allow the spine to rest comfortably on the ground). And simple, abdominal breathing with.......nothing forced.

Then you begin to visualize a lotus flower with 10 petals blooming out of the navel area on the inhale.....and closing petals on the exhale. Try to keep you awareness focused on this single object & contuinue normal, deep breathing. Then subtly try & add colour to the flower. Visualize a bright yellow. Feel the connection between this imagery and the awareness that is developing within your physical body.
